They told me
The easy road would spare me,
less resistance,
less bruising,
less chance of falling
into the teeth of the world.
But the easy road
carried its own sharpness—
a slow, quiet erosion
of everything I was meant to become.
Comfort became a cage,
Predictability is a tether.
I walked its smooth path,
Yet I felt my spirit dragging
as though chained
to every dream I didn’t chase.
The road destined for me—
the steep one,
the trembling one,
the one lit by a fire I once feared—
stayed lit behind the horizon,
calling.
There is a grief,
In knowing you avoided the mountain
meant to shape you.
A grief
in avoiding storms
that were meant to baptise you
into your own strength.
But there is also grace—
The mountain is still there.
The storm is still there.
The road carved for your feet
still remembers your name.
The easy road taught me
What comfort costs.
Jesus teaches me
What courage restores.
Amen...
