Not all love begins with being chosen.
Sometimes love begins in the quiet ache of our own decision. When the world feels uncertain, when hearts feel raw, and yet God whispers softly, “Love anyway. Choose anyway.”
There are seasons where we wait—watching for someone to step forward, to reach, to choose, to claim. And there are seasons where we must bend our own will, take the trembling hand of our heart, and decide to love even when it is heavy, even when it is confusing, even when it costs more than comfort allows.
I was presented by God with a choice—the man who stood in front of me, or not. A small, quiet nudge, almost imperceptible, yet unmistakable to the heart that is listening. It was a reminder that some choices are made by God long before they are presented to us, that the path is often laid quietly in advance, and the courage to walk it is ours to claim.
Choosing love is a sacred labour.
It is not passion at first sight, nor a fire that burns without effort.
It is quiet.
It is patient.
It is the choice to stay tender when wounds whisper to harden.
It is the courage to remain present even when answers do not come, even when the heart longs for proof.
Jesus walks beside us in this sacred work. Not as a distant observer, but as the steady, unshakable presence that holds the moments we cannot hold ourselves. He shows us that love is more than feeling—it is action.
It is grace.
It is obedience.
It is surrendering the longing to be chosen so completely that we find the freedom to choose instead.
There are days when it is hardest. When being chosen feels like a dream just beyond reach, when silence presses against the chest, and doubts coil like shadows. Yet in that tension, love becomes holy.
In choosing anyway, we mirror Christ’s devotion, trusting that He is at work in hearts and circumstances even when we cannot see.
To love is to choose humility over pride, to choose patience over resentment, to choose presence over escape. It is waking each day and making the decision again, not because it is easy, but because it is necessary.
Not because it will always be returned, but because love is first a gift we offer, then a blessing we receive.
Love chosen is stronger than love inherited. It grows not from perfect timing, but from faithfulness, from intent, from the steady drumbeat of I will love you today, and tomorrow, and the next.
It is a song we compose in quiet moments—a melody made of sacrifice, prayer, and soft, relentless hope. And when Jesus is the centre, our choosing is never in vain.
What we nurture, He blesses.
What we commit, He strengthens.
What we love, He holds.
We do not choose blindly; we choose with wisdom, with courage, and with the grace of One who first chose us. Not all love begins with being chosen.
But some of the deepest, truest, most enduring love begins when we decide—with trembling hands and open hearts, with faith that surpasses understanding—to love anyway, to choose anyway, to trust that what we choose in Him can become more than we could ever imagine.
And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
Colossians 3:14-15
Lord,
Thank you for the small, quiet nudges you place in my heart. For the gentle reminders that some choices are made by you long before I even see them.
Thank you for the courage to choose love, even when it is hard, even when I do not fully understand, even when the path is unclear.
Help me to remain patient and tender, to stay faithful in my heart, and to trust that you are guiding every step. Teach me to love with intention, to choose with courage, and to see that love is not only a feeling, but a sacred act of the will.
May you, Lord, walk beside me in every decision, holding my heart steady, showing me the grace to love without condition, to commit without fear, and to trust that when I choose rightly, you will bless and sustain it.
Even in uncertainty, let my heart rest in your wisdom.
Even in moments of doubt, let my love be steadfast.
Thank you for giving me the strength to choose, and the faith to trust that what I choose in you can grow into something holy, lasting, and true.
Amen.
